The member of the 2015 National Assembly, Freddy Guevara, spoke for the first time on August 31 after being released from prison, where he spent a month under arbitrary detention at the headquarters of the Bolivarian Service of National Intelligence (SEBIN), the Venezuelan political police, in Caracas

Guevara explained that during his days in prison, he reflected on the need to reach a political agreement to find a solution to the crisis in Venezuela.

“I became more convinced of dedicating myself to do everything in my power to help find a solution for Venezuela, and I am convinced that we have to find a negotiated solution through the process in Mexico,” he said.

In this sense, Guevara said that he believes that the political confrontation that has prevailed in the country for the last 20 years should come to an end.

“Even though the dictatorship has taken many years from my life, I am absolutely convinced of the need to assume that this vicious cycle has to stop. I am absolutely convinced that we have to go toward a process of coexistence. Not coexistence with dictatorial structures, but coexistence between political forces”, he pointed out, underlining that one political force cannot crush the other.

He confessed that while in prison, he doubted whether it was worth it or not to remain in the country after regaining his freedom.

“I have to confess that I had doubts while in prison, and I wondered how long I was going to continue taking risks and assuming that cost. I wondered if it’s worth it. Those are the moments of doubt that one goes through in situations like these, but crises are good because they help you to get away from the wrong direction or to assume your path with more conviction, ” he said.
