The Special Action Forces (FAES) of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) became a machine of death. Its victims mainly young people from popular sectors. Its main modality is to carry out raids without a court order, arrest the allegedly criminal person and assassinate him. Thus, there are thousands who have had their right to life violated

In June 2022, the High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet stated that the FAES had been officially dissolved. It is possible that it has happened, but there is no official statement that indicates it.

The government announced in April 2021 a restructuring process of the PNB. In October of that same year, it granted a six-month extension that has already expired. Very little has been reported about what has been done. No transparency. Almost secret. There is also no known announcement of a purge of that organism and particularly of the Faes component.

Through information obtained informally from officials, it is known that a good part of those who had been working in the Faes were transferred to the Directorate Against Organized Crime (DCDO) and others to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DIP). Unofficially, the creation of the so-called Directorate of Strategic and Tactical Actions (DAET) became known.

All this is known through unofficial channels. Operate the gloom. This situation is added to others where the governing leadership prefers opacity.

The restructuring of the GNP must be a matter of national interest. More so in a country where crimes against humanity have been perpetrated and officials of said police agency have been identified by international institutions as presumed responsible.

The right to life is at stake. If it is only about make-up, it will continue with inappropriate practices of high lethality and abuse of power. Restructuring should not be limited to changing acronyms, uniforms and administrative reforms. The fundamental thing is to modify the ways of acting that produce mistreatment of the citizen and serious violations of human rights.

Efficient security agencies are required to respond to crime, acting within the constitutional framework and with full respect for human rights.

Police and military officers who abuse their power cause harm to society and are a risk. We must demand real changes and an end to human rights abuses and violations.

For this reason, it is very important that the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission be able to continue carrying out investigations into what has been happening in the area of human rights in Venezuela, identify those presumed responsible for the violations and crimes against humanity, and favor the investigation it is carrying out. the International Criminal Court.
