With the important sponsorship of institutions such as Movies That Matter, People in Need, Provea, and financing from the European Union, since 2019, Miradas Diversas – Human Rights Film Festival. This event held in Venezuela and organized by the Gran Cine Circuit is based on cinema as a citizen education process. For 25 years, its focal point has been to disseminate films oriented towards cultural diversity in the country and the defense and promotion of Human Rights.

In the two previous editions, the Festival was held, besides Caracas, in cities such as Valencia, Maracaibo, Mérida, Porlamar, and Barquisimeto, through not only the exhibition of films but also with movie forums, and panels, activities carried out with the support of specialists from various human rights institutions.

Since December 10 is celebrated as the International Human Rights Day, established by the United Nations, the exhibition takes place around that date. And this third edition of Miradas Diversas will have the particularity of being competitive in nature from now on to create a space and recognition to fiction and/or documentary productions, short and feature films, of both national and international origin.

The competition will be divided into several awards in various categories for the films that register to participate, focused on Human Rights. In addition to the exhibition in traditional movie theaters, in communities and cultural centers, as well as in open-air spaces, the festival will also be able to be seen through the streaming platform of the Gran Cine Circuit, “Impressive Films.” Likewise, this next edition is expected to reach other cities in the country such as Maracay, San Cristóbal, Puerto La Cruz, Maturín, and Ciudad Bolívar with movie forums, conferences, workshops, and panels.

It should also be noted that, as part of Miradas Diversas, the parallel exhibition Films That Matter, a selection of productions from “Movies That Matter”, an important festival on Human Rights held in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is presented in Venezuela thanks to the services of the embassy of that European country.
