Former Amazonas Governor, Liborio Guarulla, tweeted from his official Twitter account that the citizens of San Fernando de Atabapo took to the streets to reclaim their rights against the inefficient authorities in the area.

“Atabapo in civil rebellion. The people of San Fernando de Atabapo (Amazonas state) went to the streets and took the port, the Plaza Bolívar, and then they entered the Town Hall looking for mayor Andrés Camico,” wrote the ex-parliamentarian, after informing that protestors were detained by bodies of the National Guard.

On that note, the indigenous leader also pointed out that the protesters raided the SENIAT deposits and the ships docked on the port “packed with food”.

According to the information provided by Guarulla, the reasons that led the citizenry of Atabapo to protest were the reiterated abuses from bodies of the National Guard and the promises unfulfilled by the Chavista administrators.

“The Chavista officials promised that if they were given the Presidency, CNA, Legislative Council, local councils, town halls, and Governorates, in 3 days gasoline, food, satellite signal, and electricity would arrive,” wrote Guarulla.

Similarly, the former Venezuelan official denounced that the Chavista leaders in the area utilize the resources for their own wellbeing and not in favor of the people.

“The Mayor sells gold while there is no electrical plant, the Governor sets up businesses for his affairs while there is no gasoline,” he noted.

Likewise, he pointed out that the capital of the Atabapo municipality “has spent almost three months without electricity and gasoline.”
