The most recent report by the Venezuelan Lethal Force Monitor revealed that the Venezuelan State is responsible for a third of all homicides registered in the country since 2016.

Keymer Ávila, director of the organization, pointed out that the monitor has so far registered more than 14,500 cases of deaths with the intervention of the State security forces.

Mr. Ávila indicated that the Bureau for Scientific, Criminal and Forensic Investigations ranks as the most lethal security agency in the country, followed by the Bolivarian National Armed Forces.

“These two national security bodies account for roughly 60% of the cases of deaths attributable to the intervention of public forces in the country, followed by the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, mainly represented in the Bolivarian National Guard,” he explained.

Ávila highlighted that 16,280 people died in the country due to the intervention of public forces between 2016 and 2018 while an average of 15 young men and women died at the hands of the police every day during that period.

“We are talking about more than 5,000 people a year. About 15 young men and women died at the hands of the police every day. In 2018, these figures represented a rate of 16.6 deaths due to intervention of public forces per 100,000 inhabitants,” he emphasized.
